Newbie here....C&C wanted!!

Hey guys. I am very new to this and wanting to learn from you guys!!! These were shot with a Canon Rebel XT + kit lens. Very anxious to hear what you think and ways to improve (I know there are lots!!!) Also, looking to get a new lens to use mostly for shooting horses/action shots. Not a clue where to start. Help??? Thanks guys!!!

Just for future reference, it's usually best to limit yourself to 2-3 pictures per post when asking for C&C. It's sometimes hard to see past the image soup when there's more than that.

I will give some general critique, however. They're all pretty decent shots. Most have some focusing issues. Also, watch out for direct sunlight, it's the arch nemesis of photographers. It creates harsh shadows and blown out highlights (like in your 4th shot).
