Hi, I just join the forum. I would like some pointers please! Here are some shots I've taken with my D7000 w/ kit lens (Shots taken in Aperture Priority mode). This is my first DSLR so I am very new at this! Btw this is my first post :)

Welcome! :)

When posting a photo for critique, state what you think is good about the photo and what you can improve on. This will really help develop a more critical and observant eye when reviewing your own work.

Also, label your photos 1-3 or whatever the numbers may be. Try to keep the number of photos small (around 3).

the last shot is great :) nice composition. a bit dark in the bottom right, but it works for the photo. Try fiddling w/ Manual mode and jack up the ISO a notch and perhaps a step up (or down) on the f-stop.

beautiful last shot, very nice composition :) what settings did you use to get this shot?

Thanks! I will do that in the future :). But for now I feel like my pictures are not as "pop" as the others in the forum. But I'm wondering if it's because I'm using the kit lens w/o any filters or it's my settings.

so beautiful

Thanks! I tried to play with manual settings and most of the time it came out horrible lol. So I'm trying to stay away from it until I get a little more experience with A and S priority first. But thanks for the heads up I will definitely play around with the settings more :)

I believe I was in Aperture mode. So the camera sets the rest but here's what I got.

Kit lens btw

28mm
1/400s
f/10
ISO 100

Now try pluggin in those exact settings in M mode - the results should be close, but you'll learn how to "juggle" - shutter, aperture and ISO to get varied effects. It's fun and you learn faster that way :) Btw, Nice Camera!

Yeah, I think I should start using manual all the way now. Worst thing that can happen is I'll end up w/ 16GB worth of ugly photos lol.

I recommend that you stick with aperture priority and change the exposure with your exposure compensation button ( the plus minus button beside the shutter release ). In my experience, you will learn faster that way.

Just keep playing it for now until you get more used to it.

Wow great tips and thanks for the links guys. I'll shoot more photos using your tips and I'll upload them here later :D.

Sweet man! Cannot wait! I get sooo excited when I see someone new that obviously is going to progress far...
I'm getting better thanks to TPF, but my first posts were crap...yours so far are what I progressed to not long ago and I've been here for three going on four years...

Okay lol I took some advice and played around with the settings a bit. From the Live View these pics seems fine but once I view them on the computer I feel like it's a bit under exposed or not as "pop" as I want them to be. My guess is that it could also be the lighting in the room because outside is cloudy and I have poor lighting in the room or my ISO settings is not right. I didn't use flash on any of them because I think the built in flash are horrible because they're not as soft as bounce flash (can't afford one right now :( ) and I didn't want any reflections from the subject.

All shots are taken in Manual mode :) wasn't as bad as I thought it would be lol. C&C please! :)
