hey guys i have a nikon d40. Most of the photography i do is car shoots and personal for vacations and events. I want a good lens for close ups and also for some distance. I also head that i should invest into a flash. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks guys

This lens also has a 1:2 Macro feature from 35 mm to 85 mm.

Nikon 24-85mm f/2.8-4.0D IF AF Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasU
Unfortuntaely, that lens doesn't have an AF motor in the lens so you would have to focus manually using your D40.

I also head [sic] that i [sic] should invest into [sic] a flash. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks guys
Do you know what iTTL is, and how to use it?

I recommend you start with a Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

i don't know what ittl is and how to use it. Im as newbie as it gets all I've done is read the whole instruction manual and done some manual HDR shots and some high exposure. I got a new laptop ill upload some pics and you can tell me what I'm doing wrong lol

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 is your lens. Buy it, Use it, Love it. When you need a lens for distance, the new 70-300 VR-G NIkkor zoom is good, and affordable. You NEED a "wide zoom", the 17-50mm, and a "tele-zoom", the 70-300.

I third the 17-50mm f2.8 tamron

The 17-50mm f2.8 tamron is an great lens, I really enjoy mine.
