Night club photography: lightning

Hi I am working as a nightclub photographer and started it quite recently. I want to improve my skills so I am always trying to learn from other photographers. I found this photo recently and I loved the way its been exposed i like that top part is exposed by flash quite brightly but the bottom part is darker, how I could get similar result? do i need like more advanced diff users for that or what ?
