Was in Europe for a couple of weeks, and while in Budapest I tried to get some nice night shots of the Danube and surroundings. While I realize a tripod is paramount, Handheld was the best I could do (their were no suitable ledges at this spot :/). What do you think of the composition?

Looks nice, but the image is split evenly between absolute blackness and the lighted city. Kind of a bland composition for the subject. I'd have lowered the shot a bit to crop out some of the featureless sky. Just my two cents, impressive for a handheld night shot, I must say.

One of the things that I found so beautiful about Budapest was the eroded stone buildings up on the hills that had this diffuse glow under the lights at night.

it's a nice picture but it looks underexposed on my monitor...

Per above suggestions I cropped away some of the featureless black sky. I used the rule-of-thirds (ROT) such that the roof of the building in the background, and the shoreline of the river are on the horizontal ROT lines. The crop gives the photo a more panoramic feel.

Thanks everyone!,

I would have to fully agree that the extra blackness of the sky was too much, and funny enough took a post to realize it. One of those obvious but sometimes oblivious moments. I will keep this in mind.

@KmH,

I like what you did with the crop, and the idea of the more panoramic view.

Great tips overall,
