Nikon 1DX or 5D mrk 1???

I know this sounds insane to the lot of you but I'm poor and I need a full frame camera.

A friend of mine uses a 5D mark1 for weddings and has produced some amazing images.
However for slightly less money I could purchase nikons 1DX.

What do you think of those two bodies?

5D Mark I for sure.

Unless to already have a lot of Nikon gear already.

I think you mean D1x
The 1DX is Canon's new $7000 flagship model.
The D1x is not a full frame camera and it's also a CCD (analog) sensor. Personally? I'd go for the 5D classic, but if Nikon is better suited to you there are much closer technology cameras than the D1x from Nikon. There are a lot of things on the 5D that the D1x just doesn't offer.

Nikon's D1x has an APS-C image sensor. The D1x was launched many years before the Canon 5D was.

The first Nikon full frame sensor appeared in the D3.

Hard to beat a 5D IMO for anything around the $800 mark.

I am a Canon girl and will always be! I would go Canon because it's newer technology and the Nikon I believe is not FF.

Canon 5D classic, Nikon D3, Nikon D700--all have around the same sensor size, 12 to 12.8 megapixels, all are FF, and all have about the same image quality up to ISO 3,200. The Nikon D3s had a significantly better sensor than the D3 and D700--which share the same sensor. Again, the D3s has a much better sensor than the D3 or D700.

The D1x is, honestly, quite dated and old-fashioned. As far as the best-imaging camera in the $750-$850 price range these days, it is the Canon 5D classic. Although the Nikon D7000 is not full-frame, like the Canon 5D is,it is now available used for $700 or so, and has pretty good image quality.

I would assume that it is the 1D Mark II if that's what he wrote. Go for the 5D classic.

Yep. The 1D MK II has an APS-H size image sensor.
