Nikon 50mm 1.8 compatibility

I've been looking on the inter and can't find anything. I'm assuming it isn't, but does anyone know if the Nikon 50mm 1.8 compatible with the D40 as far as AF goes?

No it's not, it's an AF-D lens. The D40 will only AF with AF-S lenses.

It will meter but not AF. The new 50/1.4 AF-S will AF on the D40, but it's obscenely overpriced if you ask me.

No but the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S will. I had a D40 and it wouldnt AF with my Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye either. My solution? I upgraded to a D90 and bought the 50mm 1.8, saving about $350 on a lens that is very close in performance.

Thank you. That was going to be my next solution. I was going to get the 50 mm 1st then pgrade to the d90, but now it looks like I will be reversing that order.
