@pixmedic as of this moment, i am trying to find a good deal on the 70-300mm VR but to no avail. I agree with you and refurbs run at $300 but couldn't find anything right now.

its a great lens for the money. got one sitting in the closet somewhere in a box from the move along with an 18-105 we never use. used the 70-300 twice in the last 3 years.
they will both probably end up as a donation here in the near future.
