with the grip, the d300 shoots at 8fps full res. may want to keep that in mind. even buying the grip a few months down the road would probably do. until then your frame rate is still doubled.

if you could, this is ultimately what i would recommend.

That is a very good point. I am pretty good about doing my homework but somehow that one flew under the radar on me. I guess the D300 might be back in contention.

It's true but you can't use the EN-EL3e if you want 8, you need an EN-EL4 battery which is another $110 and a battery door for that which is $35, or you can use 8 AA's.
