Nikon D3100 Newbie

Just curious as far as lenses goes.. Will the standard 18-55mm that came with this camera do well with basic shooting for now? I have a 17 month Old and one on the way in August. Just looking to take better shots with the dslr then my old point and shoot.. eventually will get the 55-200mm lens but the bundle pack is alittle more the i wanted to spend currently, and had to keep it in the budget.
So will this lens be sufficiant at amature photos..EX.. swingset playing, Birth of second child, running, bubbles.... type of photos.

Yes, the 18-55 kit zoom will do a LOT. The majority of the real work needs to be done by the person holding the camera. A cheap Bic ballpoint pen can write a novel...with the right person holding it...
