Nikon D40 night shot blur HELP?!

Hey everyone I am new to the forum and completeley new to photography and have just recently purchased a Nikon D40 as my first camera. Well I was trying to take scenic shots of the city skylne at night on night mode and all my shots would come out completeley blurry! Can anyone give me a hand?

You need a tripod to take any photos at night. No matter what, your shutter will be too slow to take the picture hand-held.

You need to understand the fundamentals of shutter speed, aperture and exposure in general to be able to take night exposures.

And, yes, you'll need a tripod or something study to place the camera on to do night exposures. Ideally, you should use the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Wireless-Control-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00007EDZG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1223329379&sr=8-1"]ML-L3 remote[/ame] as well.

+1 the above. Rule of thumb is never shoot hand held at anything under 1/80 on any camera.
