Hi everyone! I currently have a Nikon d5100 and am looking for a wide angle lens. I don't know where to start or what to look for. Any suggestions? It will be mostly for landscape

Start with your price range. That will help with giving you a feasible reccomendation. $500, $1,000, $1,500, etc...

You may want to go with a prime for landscape, if you can find one wide enough for your purposes. How wide are you interested in going?

I went with the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 for my D7100. The optics are superb, but it may be a little too heavy and bulky to carry up the mountain especially considering it's very limited zoom range.

Actually even the 18-55mm or 18-105mm can do a great job for wide angle shots but of course if money isnt an issue then there are other better lenses like the Sigma 18-35mm or Nikon 14-24mm 2.8G

What lens(es) do you already have for your D5100?

so let's try under $500. I currently have the 2 kit lenses that came with the 5100 and I also have the 50mm 1.8g

Under $500, I would go with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. It should be close to your budget at $450 new, under $400 used.

I have the Nikon 10-24mm, but it both cost more than your budget and IMO does not perform as well as the Tokina. I got the 10-24mm for my D5300, before switching to the D7100.

It looks like the Tokina has some pretty great reviews! Thanks for the advice... I may add this to my Christmas wish list ;)
