Hi, I am stuck between the two cameras .. and I am not sure which is the best for a new comer to photography.

The first option is a refurb Nikon d5300 with VR II kit lens for $650
The second is a refurb Nikon D5500 with the same kit lens for $700.

Can anyone help me out on my decision making here! Thanks in advance

Both VERY close but the D5500 has a better grip, a touch screen and I think few more goodies so for 50$ its a no brainer, get the D5500

I agree, for $50 difference the D5500 is worth it. Is the kit lens an 18-55? If so, you prices look about $100 to $150 high for a factory refurbished. Have you checked around for prices?

The D5500 has the touch screen and Tap To Focus. I saw the 5500 reviewed by Fro Knows Photo, and he was very impressed by Nikon's Tap To Focus feature and the D5500's image quality. For that extra $50, I think the 5500 might be the better value.

The Nikon D5500 has longer battery life 820 shots vs 600 shots, lighter weight 420 g vs 480 g and the nikon d5500 ships with touchscreen LCD while the D5300 don't have it. plus it has more features. The nikon D5500 is better in every aspect, See the Nikon D5500 bundle for in depth details.

I think both models are popular amongst the best in Entry-Level DSLR cameras. Among them, You can choose Nikon D5500, because of it is Easy to control of camera functions, 100% higher Max ISO, 220 more frames with a single charge, higher color depth, higher dynamic range, better High ISO performance and so on.
