I was looking at both too although my financial situation is far from affording either.

The D80 does feel better, but in terms of price vs performance and features, most people prefer the Canon. I don't know. I have a set of Nikon non-AF lens so I don't know if sticking to Nikon(D80) helps.

It is very nice. The 400D not only vibrates the mirror to shake off the dust, it also has what is called a dust mapping feature, where if there is any dust on the mirror that it did not remove, if you take a picture of say, a white wall, and it detects some, it will automatically be removed from the pictures you take.
