What are your thoughts on this camera? I just recently purchased it with the kit lens 18-105 mm how good or bad is this lens for Portraits, landscape, general photography?

And which other lens you recommend and why?

Thanks!
Zoe

i have D90 with 17-50mm 2.8

Does me well, i see no point in upgrading till a new full frame comes out

What do you mean by a "full frame"?

Congrats on your D90 purchase!

as a starting lens it; it can work for all those areas of photography given its limitations with how far you can take the aperture settings at each focal length.

a good places to start would be: but it all depends where your interest lies as well. what are your interests?

Nikon 50mm 1.8D - this lens is pretty much will be found in every photographer's bag at some point in their gear acquisition. good place to start to learn about DoF and composition (cause of the way it forces you to move)

The D90 has an APS-C size image sensor that is smaller than the normal 35 mm (135 format) or full frame image sensor. Digital Camera Sensor Sizes: How it Influences Your Photography

APS-C size image sensors have a 1.5x (Nikon) or 1.6x (Canon) crop factor.

Digital Photography Tutorials

Photography is more about the knowledge and skill of the photographer than the gear used.

The Nikon 18-105 is a fine lens for landscape, portrait, and general photography as long as it is used effectively. Effectively using any lens means understanding what it's limitatuions are.
