Ok, so i recently bought a nikon SB600, and am planning to get another. I love being able to wirelessly control it with my d200, but that requires the onboard flash. Not a big deal, except when you want to take some fishy pictures through the aquarium glass. My idea is to setup two sb600's ontop of the tank, and have the camera wwirelessly trigger them. Will the SU-800 allow me to do this, without worrying about a flash shining off the aquarium? Does the su800 trigger SOLELY through infrared?

Thanks in advance!

So wait, that will allow me to still control them wirelessly, but i wont have the reflection off the glass?

Yes blocks visible light. Same trick can be done taping a piece of exposed film on front of the flash.

Nope as even if the onboard flash is set as commander at --- pre-flashing is still required to comunicate back & forth with the flashes. But they only use the IR part of the light spectrum.

There is pre-flash before the sensor is actually exposed. But on close up and macro work the pre-flash can still effect and add light to the subject due to close proximity.
And is a well known problem.

Yep. The SU-800 only emits IR. The pop up emits both IR and visible light, so even when the pop up is set to -- in CLS it has to emit visible light at it's lowest power setting, along with the IR.

For $50 you can have radio triggers, but no TTL. The SU-800 is pretty pricy for what it does, and the best strobed light results come from manul operation anyway.
