Nikon Z5ii

Anyone have any experience with the Z5ii. I am probably going to trade all of my Nikon DSLR APS-C cameras and lenses to help fund a Z5ii and FTZii adapter. I’ll keep my D750 and my FX lenses and buy Z lenses as I can save for them.

I do. I'm very happy with it. The Z5ii is a very good option if you aren't a professional sports or wildlife photographer (where a Z8 gives you a better sensor and more frames per second). It also holds two SD cards (so you don't have to carry multiple types of storage cards). Reviews I've read said that the Z5ii doesn't track eyes as well as a Z8.

You didn't say what other options you're looking at (I assume another Nikon). Invest in batteries: mirrorless cameras go through them quickly.

I've got an FTZ adaptor and never use it. Part of the big advantage of the Z bodies is that the Z glass is so much superior. Part of the reason is that the lens is closer to the sensor. So by using the adaptor, you negate part of that advantage.

Well, I actually was offered an amazing deal on a Nikon D500 and went with it, just waiting on it to arrive. I’ll try the D500 out if I don’t like it, I can easily recoup my money.

My D500 is my goto camera. If you prefer dSLRs it is tough to beat. Good luck with it.

I had a Z50 and a Z5 and they are great cameras. I just prefer the OVF of a dSLR. I am comfortable with it. The EVF on the Z50/Z5 was great indoors but fell short out of doors in bright light especially with my glasses darkening as they become sunglasses out of doors. One thing the mirrorless Z cameras do much better than D series is LIVE VIEW and VIDEO.

I have a bunch of Nikon bodies. But my two "go-to" bodies are a D500 and the Z5ii. For wildlife and sports (in part because of focusing on quick movement and also just being more comfortable with the D500 in bad weather), I use the D500. For street photography, portraits, special projects, family stuff (like a birthday celebration) or indoors in lousy lighting (so I can jack up the ISO) I go with the Z5ii. Both are terrific bodies, they're not identical in their strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah, there is an adaptor and maybe you're using a professional caliber F mount lens. But getting that lens 1-2 inches closer to the sensor makes a big difference. And the Z lens are designed to be better than an F equivalent.

I have a good selection of F mount lenses and that is pretty much why I jumped when the D500 was offered to me. Mirrorless is in my future, but I'll have to save up for it now or sell some other toys.
