It looks like the center of a coneflower after all the petals have fallen off.
i love the way you backlit it.

Thanks. The shot was a happy accident. I was actually shooting (surprisingly brave) deer in a local park, and when I was sneaking around in the brush for a better shot at a doe I looked to my right and this beauty was staring me right in the face.

From doing some research (and by research I mean asking my wife who has a degree in wildlife biology), I think it's a sunflower (we have a few of those in Kansas after all).
