Great job with the monotone conversion! The eyes appear a little dark or racoon-like, probably from the shadow cast by the brim of the hat. I think a little more texture/sharpness on his skin would give the photo a slightly more "gritty" appeal that would work with the overall style. Lastly, I think the crop is a hair tight. Having the entire head/hat in the frame as well as a little more breathing room to the right of the frame could have improved an already pleasing image. I think this image would make a fantastic gift for your friend. Cheers.

Thanks for the in great critique. I agree about the eyes but I think the racoon eyes are more from partyin' than anything! I have been playing with dodging eyes to get rid of bags but have not done it to my liking yet.

I played with quite a few crops before I ended up with this one. I will have to revisit and try them again. Thank you for the suggestions. I really appreciate them.
