Noob w/ Nikon D40

Uh, looking through the lens is actually just one of many advantages to having a DSLR camera.

But the feature you're wanting is called 'live view', and the D40 doesn't have live view.

I just thought live view would be better so I can have an idea on what I need to adjust before snapping the picture.

The car is on air-ride suspension so it's adjustable with one touch of a button! I like the D40 so far, but I just don't like how I have to look into the lens each time I shoot. Is there a way to see what I'm shooting through the screen?

Not with that camera... Most prefer the viewfinder anyhow.

Live view is becoming more common now on DSLR's. I have it on my D7000 but never use it. You can hold the camera much steadier with your elbows pressed against your body than with your arms outstretched.

I think that's what I was doing wrong. I'll try to do that tomorrow :)

I never use live view, but if I remember right, live view doesn't really show you how the photo will look in the final shot, brightness wise. I may be wrong.
