I don't know it was very harsh light, no catch eye and way bright on one side and dark on the other. he came flying over head just teasing me in the bright sun.

Second one especially is great, how do you get such nice Blue sky in Harsh Sunlight ?

The red tailed hawk picture is bad-@ss

I can see what you're saying about the hawk, but I'd be pretty delighted with that if it was mine. Yeah, it's a little dark on his underside because of the lighting, but for me, the beautiful "hair light" around the edge of his feathers is worth it.

Love the warbler! Palm would be my guess too, but my warbler ID skills are pretty weak.

I like how the sunlight accents his tail colors even if the rest is a little dark.

Thanks all.

It was mid-afternoon and high in the sky. It was very bright as you can see on one side. The d800 seems to have excellent dynamic range. As long as my exposure is correct i can usually maintain sky color without it blowing out.

But i also need to make sure the sun is away from my shooting angle.

I do usually underexpose because nikon raws do great at bringing out shadow detail, but not as good with highlights. As well as more rich deep colors processing a slightly under exposed image.
