my canon flash unit just died the other day...
sent it in today with 10 days of warranty left
definitely don't recommend cheap off brand sync cables, it fell off of mine within a week of buying, though i don't think that was why it broke, seeing how that happened almost a year before it stopped working
it was in the middle of a shoot too
half way through it just fizzled out
gave it new batteries, and it says it's charged, but on full power it just kind of crackles, and barely even produces enough light for me to see it fire
