Nice getting the dog looking at you. You might want to try getting down to the dog's level, or getting a little lower (don't know how tall you are).

I'd suggest noticing the background and see if you can get the dog in front of a 'clean' (not too cluttered) background so you're not getting the edge of a door, etc.
