Not too great with portraits. Some attempts

I like them. The last few are the best in my opinion.

To my mind, the very last is the best one of the bunch here. It could still have been better, had you angled the camera just a tad lower, as not to "sever" his legs right through his knees (ouch!), leaving a good amount of (unnecessary) headroom, but that's about all. The natural light on his face and his relaxed pose are very nice!

The first two severely suffer from the use of direct (on-camera, pop-up?) flash.

I was actually using a SB800 in those. The flash is sort of dramatic on the subject, I agree. Then again, I'm still learning and a friend of mine asked me to do it last minute and I was nervous because I had never done portraits like that before. The boy standing by the door I bounced the flash off of the wall to my left and the hip hop dance move I believe I had the speedlight angled to bounce off the ceiling.

That I can see! That's what actually HELPS the photo quite a bit.

No. You did not. You applied direct flash. Which kind of ruined the photo, as the shadows are ... erm ... not good.

The only people that will care are the ones wanting to improve their People Photography skills and the ones trying to help those people towards that end goal.
