Some portraits I took of a new model in downtown Chicago. At one point a sudden downpour descended on us, but the sun was still out, so I got an interesting shot during that before we had to run for cover. Not long after that a building directly above us was struck by lighting and it was one of the loudest things I have ever heard in my life.

Lit using available light.

Nice portraits and running for cover seems to be a thing this summer

Thank you.
Especially so in the Midwest! Looking forward to hopefully seeing a good storm or two during my next visit.

Well done. Especially like the last one.
Thank you. I'm honestly surprised I even got that shot. The lighting changed so quickly and caused that over-exposure, but it ended up helping make the shot better in my opinion. Maybe unintentional "high-key" would be a better way of describing it than me saying it was over exposed.

Thank you.

I just watched a double feature of Twister followed by Twisters. I absolutely love visiting my friends in the Midwest, but the weather in that area can be SCARY. So far I haven't seen any tornadoes, however in 2024 my friends and I were driving through a thunder and lightning storm in Illinois at night, and we all though it was pretty cool. Come to find out the following day that we were surrounded by many different tornadoes, we just didn't see them.

I spent the first eleven years of my life in central Illinois, town called Decatur. We saw many tornados and funnel clouds, had plenty of loud thunder, went through a few tornado warnings hiding in a bathtub, but never saw any tornado damage.

I have been around a few and there is nothing you can do but hide in a storm shelter.

I'd say that's pretty lucky. Just this year I saw what remained of an entire neighborhood that was leveled in Kankakee County just a couple weeks before I arrived in late April. What I thought was a neighborhood being developed was in fact a neighborhood that had been completely wiped out by a tornado. All that was left was the concrete road and the foundations of several homes, and this wasn't even 20 minutes out of Bourbonnais.

It seems to be getting worse every year. My friends in Illinois are planning to move back to Oregon in the next few years, and I really hope they do before another really destructive tornado comes through their area.

A couple more from this session.
