I like your series. The fact that you gradually increase the magnification helps to understand what is #3. #2 is the best, I really like the depth of field. It shows that you were not pushing the magnification ratio to 1:1. If #3 is at a ratio of 1:1, #2 is around 1:2ish? I would like to see a similar shot as #3 on the walnut. The texture and crack seems pretty cool and the lighter colour would probably help you with reflection on the surface of the nut like you have on #3. What kind of light did you use? Any diffuser? Your light seems a little too hard and you loose the colour of the nut. Other than that, pretty nice idea!:thumbup:

I'm sorry that I can't answer the ratio question. My knowledge is quite limited, and I am still just figuring things out.

I haven't got any flash, just incandescent lighting that I am trying to keep directly off my subject.
