Hi, I'm new here and my name is Sven.
So I have gone through all this time searching for the best DSLR for me, then the lens, then the flash and now the tripod. And I really can't figure this one out. I have read so many threads and websites and I guess the best thing to do is to make a new one, specially for me.
(Anyway, I have a Nikon D3100, Tamron 18-270/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD, Metz 50 AF-1)
I have an old Velbon tripod, which I used with the small video camera, it's a CX-300. It's not very tall, it's cheap, it's old, it's not good (obviously).
So...
I looked at the Velbon Sherpa 600R... It looks very good to me, it's tall, it can go low-low, it has the quick release plate (which most of the new ones have, but anyway I really want this feature), and portrait positioning (which would also be awesome). It costs around 110 here.
I need help, someone recommend me something. I have read from everywhere that the more you pay, the more you get etc. That a proper stable tripod costs alot. I want to know if this 600R is good enough for me, or should I spend more on a tripod or could I get something better for about the same money?
I have also read that the tripod should be at my eye level without the center column, and it should only be extended in some more extreme situations.
The problem is, I'm 190 cm tall... So most of the tripods would be at my eye level only when the center column is extended. So the tripod won't be so stable for me, as I would have to use it like that.. Does that also mean that I should really invest more in more stable legs. I don't feel like paying 110 and getting the same results as with the CX-300.
Also I would like to know how often should I use it? Like.. only at low shutter speeds? Or even with enough light.. like 1/100 shutter or something. The question is, will the sharpness of the picture be improved at higher SS too?
Asking because paying 200 for a tripod and not using it very often isn't an option either. x]
Summary(?): I'm 190cm tall. My equipment weight is about 1.5 kg max. How much should I invest and in which model? How often should I use it?
Also, I live in Estonia, so I don't think I'll see all those Manfrottos and Gitzos here in the shop.
(I asked about the 600R from a local site, they said it might not be so stable, and recommended me the Manfrotto 055xprob. Any opinions about this model? In one thread I read that it's quite good.. Which head would you recommend?
I know it's a complicated thread, and there are millions of those, but can you recommend me anything?
