Odd looking Mushroom - C+C

Here's ANOTHER example of a file I loaded up to flickr before my HDD crashed (hence, this is the ONLY example I have left, as the crash took all the originals along with all the rest of my 2013 photos!). Again, I have no idea what settings I used other than I used my Sony A77 with the Zeiss 16-80mm lens... Here's the pic:

Maybe shoot vertical and closer if possible?

Not bad, but the vegetation to the left is a bit of a distraction. If you shoot something like this in future, you might want to ensure that the subject is the only object in the image. You could always crop off the left side and see if that helps with the composition. Maybe, as suggested, a portrait mode orientation might help with the composition, as well. I would also watch the background to ensure that it does not detract from the main subject of the picture.
