Is there a book that you would recommend to help me learn how to use and master off camera flash?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I plan to buy a couple stobes (2 or 3) to help me with portraiture... And although I plan to do a lot of experimentation when I finally decide what type of setup to use...Your input on relevant refetence materials would be appreciated...

Hot Shoe Diaries, By Joe Mcnally.

Amazon link

Strobist Review on it

If you don't know about it, strobist.blogspot.com is the biggest database of OCF info anywhere. More to learn from that site than any other I've ever been on.

once again - the strobist... here's a list of his books that he recommends...

books!

Hi

I found lighting books extremely hard to concentrate on, give google a shot.
Try "portrait shoot with 2 strobes"
good luck

I have both of Joe McNally's books. Hot shoe diaries and The Moment it Clicks are both great books for any one who wants to use OCF.

I have a few great books listed on my website: http://ocfworkshop.com some are not easy to find. These books are in my opinion the best technical books to read for off camera flash. I like the McNally books too but they are more inspirational then technical. Oh and just read stuff on strobist and on my website too. Sometimes it helps when explained in different ways.
I just ordered the speedlighters handbook from Syl Arena, a review will be up somewhere next week.

I agree. Great books indeed and it isn't dry and boring, plus lots of great images.

Look no further  THE BEST BOOK EVER  about off camera flash is here and specially if you'r a Canon shooter you wont want to miss out on this one. Today arrived my long awaited *** SPEEDLITER'S HANDBOOK *** from Syl Arena. It blew me away, easy to read very complete information with a ton of photo's to explain a lot of different situations and setup. Very helpful screenshots of your flash and camera screens and buttons. A lot of tips, tricks and how to do stuff, light modifiers for your flash and how and when to use them. Exposure, Inverse square law, gels, gear and so on I never seen a more complete book about off camera flash than this one. And if you are not a Canon shooter you will still enjoy this book as 70-80% of it is good to know no matter what brand of camera or flash you have.
Really a top notch product. (I'm not getting paid to say this and have no relationship whatsoever with Syl Arena, if you buy it on Amazon using my website I will get a small percentage of the sale nevertheless it is a great book.) Did I say its a good book?
