What's new

Oh no, another D7000 owner!

That shot is soft, shooting at 1/80 at 270mm is madness not a good start

My thoughts as well. Try and follow the guideline for your shutter speed: 1/focal length

i got mine before christmas! i love it!

I don't see soft i see nice shallow DOF. Besides that was the old handheld guide- one over the mm or 250th for a 250mm lens. With VR all bets are off. You gain up to 4 stops.

I am interested in the D7000 because of more lens options. I am currently shooting a D700 and wondering how well the D7000 will do compared to the D700 on ISO. Shooting in low light situations where I need to crank up the ISO is very important for my job.

The D7000 is really good in low light. Much better than most of the lower end predecessors. I was pretty surprised by how good but I think the D700 still edges it out just a bit. I've shot quite a bit with both...not a huge difference but I would still give the D700 an edge. And despite what others say including yes, Ken Rockwell, I would say that the D700 is still a better camera overall.

yeah i'm in the same situation, also looking at getting a D7000 for work in low light

25,600 ISO low light sample from my D7000, cropped. No edits outside the camera other than the border and logo... Some noise reduction could have really helped but I wanted something to show people when this got brought up.
