Here's another attempt..good, bad, ugly? How's the focus? Overall, how's this for abstract?

I like it. What is it?

It's kind of monochromatic.

The center of the spiral is right on the horizontal centerline of the horizontal frame, which when combined with the monochromatic colors diminishes the drama and tension of the photo.

If the center of the spiral had been at a ROT power point..........

Also a good time to mention the Golden Spiral compositional element.

On textured items, you could use flash, or flashlight even, to do extreme side lighting to add drama.

Yep. ROT is just one of several spatial compositional guidelines.

It occurs to me too that no one seems to have mentioned that Lightroom can display some compositional guidelines beyond the ROT, like the golden spiral.

in the Develope module, select the crop tool. Once the crop tool is selected, at the topf the workspace click on View > Crop Guide Overlay > and select from the overlay choices:
Grid
Thirds
Diagonal
Triangle
Golden Ratio
Golden Spiral

Thanks Keith, I didn't know that. I plan on playing with this image again when I get home. I'll post up if I can get anything good!
