What's new

Okay, so, PARIS??

A U is lower than an F put it that way lol its anything under 10%

Is it horendous of me to say i'm now officially sick of Cartier Bresson?

Yes it is, i never get sick of look through his books

I'll have you know i hate chips - I'm a pie and mash girl :D lol

Ok, although I'm not able to visualize what do you mean. You can also drink tap water, though Perrier is from those places.
Your exhibition place should be Le Louvre: another nice place, with a glass pyramid as entrance in a series of old buildings and lot of magnificent art pieces inside.
Ah, also the Orsay museum is nice: and old train station restored by the italian architect Gae Aulenti.

I was introduced to him during my first essay paper studying my degree and really enjoyed analysing his photos but i think because reaching 4000 words was so excrutiating i link it to that in my head, if i see work i haven't seen i enjoy it, mind you.

What do you recommend I look out for as far as photo inspiration and awesome shots goes?

Doesn't that come from within?

This question always amazes me.

I'll be straight with you.

I normally wouldn't even take my SLR to Paris, my photography at the moment is a very personal documentary style and I feel like I'm under pressure to take my SLR and try and be interested because I'm going with my uni. Judge me if you like but I like to open up to doing new types of images but if I'm not originally into it, I can't get into it and taking some tips from others will definitely encourage me to look closer.

Bolded: Then that's how you should approach it. Photography is about capturing the world around you from your viewpoint.

For example, there's a book you can get for a trip to Washington DC, that tells you exactly where to go, and where to stand and at what time of day, so you can get the "postcard perfect" images of the monuments. That's all well and good, but it's not the world through the photographers creative eye, is it?

That's why I am always puzzled by that question. You obviously have a unique view of the world, and you should think about that and apply it to your trip.

Thanks BJ, i never thought of it like that.

I used up all my 'Thanks' too soon :(

+1

With some documentary attitude, you could also attempt a walk in the suburbs ("banlieue"; much poorer than the centre and site of a major riot not much time ago), but I'm not sure going around with a dSLR is safe.

No worries with the "thanks". I got enough from some other thread. :lmao:

But I am glad I got you to think about it.

I like being taught to think. I'm pretty slow ya know? lol

I am so worried about taking my dSLR, i haven't got the money to insure it and everyone in class is debating what sort of cameras to take. The general concensus is to take a compact but that just seems so sad :( lol

Well, for your "photo inspiration" you can look to all the tourist sites and take the same pictures as everyone else, or maybe take your favorite camera and lens combination, you know, the one that feels good in your hands, the one that makes you want to take pictures, and wander the streets of PARIS and shoot anything and everything that interests you.

Good lord. It's Paris. A street photographer's paradise. Have fun.

...i don't really appreciate the comment, white. I'm not a street photographer and never at any point said i was, why the hostility?

YYAAAYYY pikcharssss!!

lol @ sister :blushing: i just have to bring it out of me :)

I have to agree 100%.

There are guide books to get a basic idea of the city and then it is really up to you where you go.

Personally, when I travel, I just walk around.

Then again, I don't travel with groups because it's the best way to not meet anyone local and discover the hidden jewels of a place.

Anyway, with only 4 days, you are not going to see much. You could spend a couple weeks in Père LaChaise and still not have seen much so go through a guide book, pick one area and explore it.

Have fun.

Btw, whoever suggested going to the "banlieue" is an idiot. NO it's not safe for a group with cameras. The "banlieue" is not a zoo.

Poor people are not poor by choice and there is no reason to treat them like animals.
