Old Gravestone

In one of the old churchyards here in town, there's an obelisk-shaped gravestone that fascinates me. It must have been for someone who was prominent in the community, as it's quite large, about eight feet tall. The carved inscription is so old and weathered that it's only possible to make out a few words.

As I said, there's something about it that fascinates me. I took this shot in the very late afternoon. I like the contrast between the old, rough stone and the delicate color of the flowers...

I like the contrast of the colors...I probably wouldn't have known what it was if you hadn't described it.

I'm curious as to what the epitaph says; there's a lot of text.

I bet you might be able to read it if you did a rubbing with a big piece of paper and a charcoal pencil or crayon.

Rubbings are frowned upon here, unfortunately...
