After 35 days traveling, mostly in Northern Laos as far north as Chinese/Burmese border (Muang Sing), will be heading home to US on Tuesday from Bangkok with about 20 gb of raw images. I culled on the camera so I will have loads of images to keep me busy for months.
After the usual culture shocks, I enjoyed this trip more than any in my life. Laos has only 14,000 KM of roads and only 20% are paved and even those are in bad repair.
My D200 and 18-200 were remarkable and the trip was a great experience and exercise. Nikon batteries improved with use; I actually got repetitive motion problems from taking pictures.
All in all, if anyone has a chance to travel in Laos to take pictures, do it.
People are wonderful, scenery is wonderful and food is wonderful.
Roads and sanitation leave a lot to be desired. When they serve you a handful of sticky rice, it is literally a handful.
