Its funny, I posted this on 500px and a few other sites and got several comments about it being photoshopped or a "manipulation". Now I admit that there was a bit of luck here in that I got the composition right and didn't even have to crop it. A very minor contrast bump and unsharp mask and that's it. I wouldn't even know where to begin in faking something like this. If I did, I am too damn lazy for that. LOL I don't get it. Maybe it makes people feel better to think that it is not possible to get something like this straight out of the camera, or damn close to it. Ok, I am done venting.

Well if your going to be an evil manipulator you've got a lot of work to do - trust me, I've already survived 2 daughters going through their teenage years and I'm working on surviving the third - lol. Great shot, absolutely love it, wouldn't change a thing.

Its funny, I posted this on 500px and a few other sites and got several comments about it being photoshopped or a "manipulation". The reaction your photo garnered is largely a reflection of the crowd that hangs out at those type of aggregator sites; every day they see loads of images made at the software stage of the game, with the normal intent being, "Saturation Slider at Max!" and, "Vibrance + 50",and "Clarity +25". The majority of images seen there are heavily dependent upon a lot of processing effort being applied to, often, only mediocre scenes. Your photo on the other hand, doesn't show much in the way of excessive saturation or excessive clarity boost, or any of a host of other processing tricks. It's just a nice scene, with great clouds, and a good water surface for a clean reflection. But, at the popular aggregator sites, that's not the normal kind of image. Call what happened to your image "guilt by association".

I was there about an hour before this. I was driving away when all of a sudden the angle of the sun hit just right to bring out the texture, it only lasted a few minutes. What you say makes perfect sense but I think what happened there were some very low clouds blocking the sun just at sunrise, when those moved away, this is what it revealed. Observing those subtle changes are something I have come to enjoy more and more.

Well said, didn't think of it that way. Sometimes I think we need to invent a new word to define heavily post processed photography. Not knocking it if that is what a person does, particularly if they do it well, but it really is two different things.
