At Venice Beach this last weekend there was an older man taking portraits of people with a 645 film camera. He wasn't asking for compensation. Just said he'd email the image to the subjects.

I like that. I should try that with my MF camera. In my youth I've used my Hasselblad for Street stuff.

Is there a requirement that as photographers, we have to wear dorky hats?

That's just cool. I have done that with people and their cars. Shoot a bunch and email them to them for free. Come to think of it - I'm also an older Man... :-)

I have that camera and I could do street portraits, but that would mean approaching strangers and talking to them, and that just ain't gonna happen. I do like the idea, though, and enjoy looking at the pictures that other people get when they do this.

nice shots.

I have a very similar hat to that. I consider myself a bit of a newbie to "hat" status. I have not yet begun to reach "vest" status. Perhaps if I work hard, apply knowledge, and continue to chase the dream of the perfect photo, one day I can get that vest.

When I was shooting news, way back in the film only days, a vest was a Fashion Don't. We used to laugh at those who donned them and called them "Shooter's Vest".
