I need to figure out how to take shots like this better. I tried turning her into the sun more, but the eye squinting got worse and there is no good background. I just had a little crop but no other processing. Thanks in advance!

But, if you do have a subject backlit, you have to use fill light to avoid underexposing the subject, or over exposing the background.

Supplimental light of some type is needed for most photographs if you are striving for a professional look.
