This is my first time really messing with HDR. How can I improve?

I've spent a couple of hours trying to get this photo to look right and I'm still not overly impressed.
Unfortunately when I took the tripod mount off the bottom of my camera I put it on my coffee table and not in my camera bag so when I got to the location of the photo I had to do it handheld. If I could have used my tripod I would have used multiple focal points instead of one on continuous shooting. Oh well live and learn, I will head back here next time we have clear-ish skies.

I think its a beautiful image, it would have been better if you had a tripod but I still really like it. is the horizon straight ? looks like it is tilting to the right a bit. and the second image is much better
