C&C per req: Great expression! I love that "Let's go play George" look that bigger dogs do so well. Remember that just because your lens can shoot at 1.8 doesn't mean you should (Noting what you said about a challenge). If you are going to shoot wide open then get back farther and crop if you need to. For me, what would have been a great, well lit, ambient-light shot is ruined by the unfocused nose/snout. I would also try and get just a little lower too; looking more into his (her?) eyes rather than down on them.

Great expression. Focus was on the eyes as it should be. But the the nose is out of focus due to using f1.8. You need to control your DOF so that the whole head is in perfect focus.
