One shot from the weekend

Thoughts about light and composition?

Not overly fussed to be truthful; you've got an attrative model, but you've not, IMO, made the best of her. Between her being bent over and you're higher shooting position, the pose and perspectice seems very awkward. The background with the bright, white sidewalk (I assume) contrasting with the vegetation is providing a bright focal point which draws the eye from the subject (The human eye is naturally drawn to bright areas instead of dark).

I think if you'd chosen to capture her standing upright and relaxed, and standing on the grass you'd have a much nicer shot.

That grass/sidewalk is very distracting the more I look at this. You are spot on about the sidewalk and angle.I have more from the shoot, I was trying out some natural light. I havent done much to this point. I will post a few more up after I look at them all. Thanks for the feedback!

I never got to see the original before it went bye bye, so I'll work with these...

I can see you working to do photography rather than just take pictures.. the effort shows in the poses, the lighting, the composition and they are better than just snapshots.

That said, these still just aren't quite there yet.

Thinking about what I'm seeing...

Well first there is no real artistic concept, styling, or MUAH. This session needed more interesting wardrobe or accesories. Necklace, earrings, bracelets, a bag, a high collar, a scarf, even a belt or some interesting shoes. Jeans and a tshirt doesn't really count as a preparation effort deserving of a photographic effort.

Second, you need to continue to work on controlling the background. the only one w/o background problems is #3, and in that one there is some other composition problem I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe the vertical patten is all above her, and my eye wants it to extend around her... so you should have backed up some and moved her off center?

Keep working at it... I can see potential. But you have to bring more concept, setup, prep, and control your background and composition.

Thank you for the feedback! This was a last second plan for a shoot so I get all the comments on the wardrobe and accesories part. Your right on the backgrounds, I see how they could draw the eye away form where it is intended. I will keep working thats for sure!

2. Good, but wayyyy too many verticals; the image overall is just too busy.

3. NICE! Just dial down the highlights a fraction and you've got the $$ shot here!

4. Not sure if it's the contrast or the sharpening slider, or a combination, but this is just too harsh.

5. Sorry, no good. Passport photos MUST be on a solid, monochrom background (That's ONLY occasion I can think of for a woman with football shoulders).
