The concept is fine but I think there are three things that hurt this.
1) the tower on the right destroys the pastoral illusion
2) the face of the baby is hidden and that of the mom is only barely seen
3) the white blouse is just too bright and pulls my eye.

^^^ everything Lew said, and... the brush in the background immediately to the left of the two doesn't help either. The light was excellent, your exposure is bang-on, but you could have come closer and filled more of the frame with them, and at the same time used a wide open aperture to blur the background. Paying attention to the background is probably the difference between OK and very good in many such shots.

Thanks guys! I was using a 50mm lens with the aperture opened to 1.8. I thought I made for a real nice and blurred background.

If you remove the tower and then darken the shirt and the sky, the pair of them become so much more the center of one's view.
Now if you could only turn the baby's head.
