I have a project due on Monday for the end of my photography class and really wanted to get some C&C before turning them in. These are all SOOC shot with natural light.

Tiffany...They are both very good shots.

I am not technical proficient to offer advice, but I think you captured a very dramatic setting and good positioning of the little girl.

I like them both.

The halo of light beside the girl looks contrived and artificial. Is it natural or photoshop? Also, the background looks flat making the image appear staged.

Upon a first glance I thought the halo around the girl was added, but when I looked closer, I saw that you - supposedly very deliberately - placed her so the shiny streak of wetter sand behind her would be EXACTLY there, i.e. right behind her. I assume that you meant to give her some "angel-like" aspect and decided the much brighter part of the wetter sand would serve your purpose, and if that was your thinking then I must say, yes, it did serve your purpose.

The points where her head and her foot are placed are well chosen, too, and I like that little bit of "action" of her letting the water run off her foot. The diagonal line of her leg brings another nice element to the photo, as does the fact, of course, that she is pretty, blond with curls, and dressed in white.

My only personal nitpick would be the line of water "cutting through" her head, but honestly: that is only a minor nitpick. Nothing important.

A very good shot with the pose, diagonal, shiny water etc but it is too tight on the right with the broken ripple circles. Horizontal format would have been more effective.

I gotta agree with the Horizontal comment above.. and also any other comment that says great pic.. both are beautiful.. The halo, I feel is just to much highlighting..

Thank you all for your responses. The lighting was pure sunshine and the "halo" effect was just the reflection off of the wet sand. There was no editing on this. I really appreciate the feedback!

I don't know how you did it, but the kid looks really relaxed. Whatever technique you used to get her to pose so well, keep using it. You have an eye for natural subjects

this actually wasn't really posed. Through the whole shoot, all she wanted to do was play in the water! She said she wanted to be a mermaid and climbed up on the rock. That was all her. I just went with it and snapped a few before she decided to move on.

To be honest, I found the last photograph of this child much better than this one... there's too much light on the background, which looks somewhat strange. see she's playing with a puddle of water, yet the sea starts behind her.

Would have been considerable if it was shot under golden sunrise/sunset light. (have a look at no. 15 here : http://www.turboshots.net/gallery/en/digha/digha_g_en.html)
