In my Chicago suburb of Orland Park, restoration efforts began about 8 years ago to bring back some of our native prairie heritage. Of the millions of acres of prairie that existed in Illinois, just 1/1000th of those prairies remain! The Orland Grassland complex is an effort to restore some prairie, wetlands, open ponds and oak savannas.

It's been a strange year for weather, too. We just had our first snowfall of the season a few days ago...and these scenes reflect that first snow.

The photo shoot also taught me that there is plenty to photograph right here in my suburb! This grassland area is practically within walking distance of my home. And, although many people don't find Illinois to be especially scenic--I love the wide open spaces. I especially enjoy photographing trees on the open prairies.

Thanks again for looking...

Lovely set, beautifully composed and exposed.

Beautiful set. You made the mundane beautiful. Love the last one.

These are beautiful!

Very nice set, Glenn. I feel like I could jump into one of those pics and walk around. My favorites are #2, 5, and 9. TFS.

All very nice, but my pick is #7.

lovely .. superb photos ... only #6's mood doesn't fit to them, it's just darkened and gloomy .. maybe because of that vignetting effect ..

Thanks...I processed #6 three different ways. One version is very similar to #3...more cold and contrasty. I decided on the sepia version for this set to introduce a little variety. But, that also makes it seem a bit out of place.
