Nice series! I love watching my Ospreys! I have bucket-loads of the ol "too far away" shots. I love in the first one you can really see how massive their talons really are!

yeah I have another series I took while at a favorite spot but only had my 70-200 with 1.4x converter.

a heron caught a huge fish, then dropped it, then another heron grabbed it and pulled it to shore, then the osprey came by and grabbed it.

here is what happened, the quality sucks, but they are heavy crops at 280mm. it was cool to watch. I also have a terrible quality picture, but the osprey looks directly at me as it fly by with the fish and its mouth looks like its smiling..LOL

I'm still a firm believer of content is king! Even though we all strive to have super duper sharp images and spend so much money trying to get there, I freaking LOVE #2. A great blue heron and a great egret looking on as the Osprey steals their fish. Incredibly Cool!

i agree, and the more i shoot the more i just dont take photos cause i want something a bit different.

im still waiting to get some shots where "content" image quailty and lighting is great.

Mathew, neat images. In the first set, I like the first one best.

The second set are also good, hey these are "documentary" photographs. Not set that many people have - you are probably the only one. It was interesting to watch the heron and the egret just stand by as the osprey took the fish. I am surprised because, in my experience, the GBHs can be quite aggressive when it comes to food.

The only thing I would ask is to number your images when you post them. This makes it a lot easier to refer to them when reviewing. Thanks.

wow, amazing shots! Such beautiful colors & details...very nice!

I love both sets! I especially like the very first picture in the original set and the second and third in the second set--I agree with the others, what's the chance of *ever* having a GBH, an Egret and an Osprey all in the same photo?

While I lust after something more than the 300mm of reach I have--we all just learn to do what we can with what we have (until we can get more, lol!).

My sister says I'm never satisfied. I get a decent shot of a GBH, I want a shot of it flying. Then I want a shot of it catching a fish. Now I'm looking for a shot of it carrying a fish.
I want shots of my Eagles perched in their favorite tree. Then I'll want them taking off from the tree--I definitely want to get a picture of one of them carrying something back to the nest.
Same with the Ospreys; I was so excited to see them, for the first time in my own state, last weekend. Now, I just want to go get a picture of one actually catching a fish!

Well, if there weren't always the "next big thing," we'd get bored pretty quick.

agreed, thats good motivation to improve our photography and along the way striving for more interesting photos we learn better technique and how to more quickly guess exposure on the fly.

i have recently gone as far as possible as far as camera body and lens. so i have no excuse.

high end gear doesnt make your photos magically good, but if you already have the knowledge of photography and how to use the gear, it sure does make them better.

i lust after others photos and knowing that i have similar higher end gear just makes me understand more how much i can improve.

i love forums they really help with pushing our selves. we learn ideas from others and technique and others photos make me want to go out and work on improving my own.

i think the reason the heron didnt do anything was because of the size of the fish. the first heron gave up quickly, and the second one couldnt even lift it out of the water. the guy just stood near it looking at it.

at this place heron and egrets are everywhere and get fish every few minutes so there is enough to go around

I'm jealous. The water here is still of the hard variety as in ice and the temp. is still below zero.

Great photos here! - I am surprised the fish isn't headless. All my shots of Osprey carrying fish are headless
