Blown out isn't always a bad thing. When you have such great contrast between the subject and the background, much like this picture, it can help to make the subject even more of the focus of the picture. The first thing my eyes looked at was Alex, and then the light. If there wasn't so much contrast between the subject and the background, my eyes would have looked at the blown out spot instead.

I had a pair of Russian Blue's that were brothers. I named them Jake and Elwood. Great cats.
