Outdoor Portraits - Angeline

Hello all,

After the very enriching critique that I received from you all at thephotoforum, I'd like to share a few more shots from a shoot I did over the weekend.

Here are some photos taken of Angeline, a Vietnamese model based in Singapore.

Equipment used - EOS 6D, Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS Mk2, Yongnuo 568EXII with a Aurora Flashbender

I was experimenting with different modes - Av, Manual, ETTL, Manual Flash trying to understand the relationship and applying what I have read about flash phtography.

For post processing - Basic contrast/Clarity/Saturation/Exposure adjusted in Camera Raw, Some retouching using Photoshop CS6 (used the Portraiture Plugin. *thanks Braineack for the reccomendation)

I like them all, #3 is my favorite followed by #1 - love em

I see what your doing with the eyes in #4 but it doesnt work for me. Others will probably disagree.

#2 is cool, I think the hand rail verticals are slightly distracting.

Thanks for replying. And thanks for the positive reinforcement! Appreciate it.

Shall take note of #2. I was triying to use the curved handrail to be a leading line orsomesort. Didn't realise the vertical bannisters were a distraction. Maybe a tighter crop might be better.

I understand what you meant about #4. Cross my heart, that's the colour of her eyes!! Haha.. Yeah. Looks a little like a doll and not very authentic I must say. (I have this strong feeling that those are coloured contact lenses... Didn't ask her though)

Thank you very much for dropping by with the comments! #1 was one of the shots that stood out for me as well.

Yeah, the coloured lenses used to be a big hit here in singapore around 6-7 years ago. There are still some who like it though. As you can see in the photos.

EOV, you know, I only took a few here and there. I tend to unconsciously stick to landscape orientations. Now that you bring it up I think it's cos I am not so comfortable take a full length portrait. Haha I almost always chop of part of the body.

But you are right I should explore taking portrait shots. Now that I recall, many of the awesome shots that I have seen are in portrait orientation. Thanks for pointing out this bit of info.

#6 was taken by dialing down the ambient exposure to about 1stop less and then adding a full flash to light the subject.

Should I have dialed down the exposure more?
