Outdoor portraiture (first time for everything I guess)

Well this was a first...
It went ok I guess, though half of the time I didn't really have much of a clue what I was doing. xD
Ok, that's a bit exaggerated, but it's definitely something I need to practice more before I really get the hang of it.

Anyways, C&C very welcome. And don't worry, I can handle it.

I think 4 & 5 are my favorites. The flash looks a little harsh on a couple of them, but overall I don't think it's bad.

I think #8 would have been better if they had emptied their pockets first. That's getting pretty picky though...

#3 is quite nice too, but there is something on her nose. I would clone that out...

I'm looking at these on my phone and without going into much details first CC is about lighting.
Shoot from dark to light... 1 and 2 shots brighter (bigger looking) sides of the face are facing the camera. It would be better to light it flat.
3rd image - there is no fill on the face.

Overall the mood of the subjects was documented however you need to play, experiment and improve your lighting.

IMO, the flash is much much too harsh and bright.
Much more diffusion and less light is called for, I think.

Heh, I hadn't really noticed that something in #3... Good call.

I'm not sure, I personally don't really ming the flat and cloning it out... Well let's just say I'm too much of a perfectionist to be wanting to try and fix the hair.

Agree most definitely I could do way better, I just have other things to do besides spend more time on it.

I don't have any issues with the poses but the thing that I see is her cheeks look really red. Maybe scale back the red saturation a little bit to take out that redness.

Well they are actually that red.

It might be a good idea to tone them down a little though...

I really like the rim lights!! So I'm guessing you used two lights (I can see the stand in #8 behind them lol)?
Uggh, now I'll have to start bringing two lights now instead of the 1 I usually work with when I'm outside.... lol

Harsh light and PP needs some work - a little luminosity PP does wonders for the skin of your subjects. Not bad though just get that flash under control and do a little more PP.

Yes, 2 flashes were used. That's a stand behind them indeed, I've not yet taken the time to clone that out. I will when I have some more time.

No, simple bare flash.
Only diffusion I had at hand was an umbrella which would've shown behind them (they can easily block a bare flash, an umbrella not so much).
I don't really think diffusion is needed with this effect, I'm not even sure if it'll make much of a difference.

Thanks for the info! I just got back from an engagement shoot and so I played around with this concept and I'm in love with the results!!!!
