Outdoor Shots C&C

On a recent trip to my cabin in Northern Minnesota (Lake Vermillion) my family and another, I had the opportunity to take some pictures of a friend. These were an on the fly shots, all I had was my camera, but I think this would be a good opportunity for some feedback to how to improve the pictures if I was not on the fly...or just plain C&C works!

Maybe a little less vignetting? I like #1, the pose and the light are nice IMOH

I say #1 and #5 are the best.

Generally, as a rule, you should try for "one keeper" for a given set up. In the studio, that would be one wardrobe / lighting / pose change. So I would say you need to cull more aggressively in your editing. You should have posted only #1 or #2, but not both.

Now I challenge you to tell us which you feel is better (#1 or #2). Then tell us why. What do YOU see in those 2 pictures that makes you choose the one over the other?

Between #1 and #2 I would choose #1, I think the angle I have the camera at add a bit of "Giant" or "Towering" (for lack of better words) which goes nicely with the Stick he is hold, he also has a much more relaxed look, and the addition of the Lens Flare* through his body is nice. I also like the colors much better as they seem to have more depth than the latter. Thoughts?

Between #3 and #4 I would choose #4, I am not a fan of the half arm shot, It looks as if I had left something out...I with the face he is giving, a closer shot seems to give more emotion. I agree with HL45, there is a bit to much Vignetting going on and I could probably remove it a couple notches. The background is a bit more blurred which definitely helps, and the colors I like even though it is about the same between both. Thoughts?

Between 3 and 4 i would choose neither.

As you are shooting up at him, and it's not flattering. in the future, if you must shoot up at someone, at least have them extend their chin a little, reducing the tendency for double chins, no chins, flabby chins, etc.

But also, compared to #1 and #5, 3 and 4 are just not flattering for him.
