So today the camera store called me and told me that my name finally came up on the waiting list for the D7000, so tomorrow after work I get to go pick it up.
I was trying to decide what to do with my current D70, and I had several options. Craigslist, eBay, converting to IR, etc. My plan was to take it with me to the store tomorrow so they could take a look at it and see what they would give me for it.
Then a friend posted on Facebook that she's trying to learn how to use her camera better while she saves up for a DSLR. Long story short, I decided to give the D70 to her (she just has to go buy her own lenses). She's thrilled, and I'm excited to be able to pass it on to someone who will be able to appreciate it.
So tonight I had the opportunity to take what would likely be my very last photograph with this camera, and I decided a fitting tribute would be a self-portrait of the camera. The setup was a Gorillapod holding the camera above the bathroom sink, about six inches from the mirror, using my 18-55mm at full zoom, while I held a pink towel about a foot behind it. I wanted maximum depth of field, so I set it to Av at f/32 which resulted in a 15-second exposure at ISO 200. During the exposure I moved the towel in a small circle to ensure a silky smooth background.
Is it the greatest shot ever? Of course not. But it's a good farewell.
