Last year a good friend of mine took me for a ride to one of the local pawn shops and we found a few good deal on equipment every since that time i now shop around this places and i notice that there is always good amount of used equipment for a good price here (houston TX) and the sales guys have no clue on how to price it all and end up giving it for a good price in some cases they use the internet for prices and when they set the price too high they get tired of waiting and end up lowering the prices . a good example of this is my Nikkor 50mm 1.8 that i got with the box and everything for only 90$ they were asking 149 $ this lens its in mint condition , the previews F100 bodys i had in the past all came from pawnshops and the must i paid was 170 with a grip , same goes for newer bodys D3100 and the like , the only time i saw a tempting deal on a FX body last year (D3s ) was gone before i had a chance to get it .
Have you guys see any deals on your local pawn shops???

Yes, I have rec'd some SCREAMING deals from two different area pawn shops. And I mean really, really, really ridiculous lowball prices. Of course, one needs to realize that most pawn shops utterly screw the people selling gear to them, so they make a substantial profit, even at a below-market used price. And...this is the key: "internet" used prices are full of blue sky. A big internet dealer can put a ridiculously high price on a name-brand item, and wait for a sucker to come along and pay full, internet retail; but in Dubuque, or San Jose, or Fort Worth, or Seattle, there are far, far, far fewer actual buyers. "internet prices" are for the most part, B.S.. Let sales people know that you know that.

Good tip there, Derrel!!!

I've been thinking about trying the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores too, anyone find anything good there too?

the trick that works must of the time its to show this sales guys you know what your talking about (gear wise ) . Must of the times it may take a second visit to the same store and when they see your face walk in if the equipment is seating there they will low ball till you smile ....

D200 with nikkor 24-120mm lens.
EX condition, 11400 shutter count.
Everything worked great.
$100 out the door.

I once bought a Nikon f4 at a pawn shop for $350, not a great deal until u consider that the lens it came with was a mint 80-200mm f2.8 af-s worth around $1000.

Bought a Nikon D70 for $55 body with only 2300 clicks a month ago as my in car camera

Not pawn shop deals, but I've done pretty well on Craigslist. Pair on 200ws monolights, stands, umbrella and a softbox.... $100.

77mm thin B+W CPL $25.

Craigslist around Philadelphia is like walking in to B&H in NY, then offering twice what they're asking.
